At 7:00 a.m. on January 1, 2025, the transit of russian gas through Ukraine will be blocked due to the termination of the agreement.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this during the Hour of Questions to the Government.
The Hour of Questions was hosted by Oleksii Honcharenko, an MP from the European Solidarity faction, on his YouTube channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"The gas transit agreement expires on January 1, 2025. At 7:00 a.m., the transit will be physically blocked due to the termination of this agreement," he said.
According to him, the resumption of transit will be possible only at the request of the European Commission, but not russian gas. At the same time, the transit of russian oil through Ukraine continues, Shmyhal noted.
"Regarding oil, the agreement is in force and, according to our agreement on the association of the European Union with the European Treaty and the agreement on the European Energy Charter, we are obliged to transit oil at the request of European countries and the European Commission. So far, we cannot violate the association agreement due to the fact that technically the company, accordingly, continues transit at the request of the European side. But we are working to impose 100% sanctions," the Prime Minister explained.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in October, applications for pumping russian gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system to the European Union and Moldova increased slightly.
