Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha has announced that 7.5 million Ukrainians have left abroad and continue to be there because of the war.
He said this during the Hour of Questions to the Government.
The Hour of Questions was hosted by Oleksii Honcharenko, an MP from the European Solidarity faction, on his YouTube channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"I believe that the number of Ukrainian citizens who are currently abroad is a security challenge for our state. Today we are talking about the number of more than 7.5 million of our compatriots who have been forced to find themselves outside our country," the Minister said.
In his opinion, Ukraine should create appropriate conditions for the return of Ukrainians, in particular, a sufficient number of air defense systems, rebuilt housing, proper provision of medical services, and the creation of a network of bomb shelters for children.
"If we take the international dimension, I believe that special programs should be prepared, which at the level of the European Union, as well as bilaterally with individual capitals, would contain a certain motivational package and special support programs for voluntary support of Ukrainians home. And we and our European allies are working on this track," added Sybiha.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau warns that from January 1, 2025, the "Green Card" policy (mandatory civil liability insurance for vehicle owners in European countries) when traveling abroad will need to be issued in advance, and not on the day of departure.
