A shooting occurred in the parliament building of the self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia. Parliamentarian Vakhtang Golandzia was killed, another politician, a representative of the opposition forces, Kan Kvarchia, was wounded.
It was reported by the project of Radio Svoboda "Echo of the Caucasus".
According to media reports, the shooting began when the parliament was discussing a bill to ban mining.
"During the meeting, Adgur Kharazia and Kan Kvarchia got into an argument, as a result of which Adgur took out a gun and started shooting at Kan. The deceased Vakhtang Golandzia tried to separate them," the publication quotes local Telegram channels.
The press service of the Ministry of Health of Abkhazia reported that MP Golandzia died from his wounds. MP Kan Kvarchia, who tried to stop the shooter, was wounded in the arm. Acting Chief Physician of the Sukhumi Republican Hospital stated that the victim was taken to the hospital in a state of clinical death.
"Two patients were taken to the Republican Hospital, patient Golandzia was taken in a state of clinical death, immediately taken to the intensive care unit, and emergency resuscitation measures were started. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. Patient Golandzia died. Patient Kvarchia was also taken with a gunshot wound to the left shoulder and scalp. The patient is currently in the operating room, a team of surgeons is working on him," the Acting Chief Physician noted.
An investigative and operational group is currently working at the scene.
According to the acting head of the Abkhazian Ministry of Internal Affairs Robert Kiut, the suspect Adgur Kharazia disappeared from the scene.
As previously reported, at the end of November, a shooting occurred in one of the Kyiv hotels, as a result of which one person was killed.
