Ukraine needs 19 more air defense systems to protect energy - Rutte

To protect energy infrastructure, Ukraine needs 19 more air defense systems.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said this during a press conference with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Brussels.

Rutte noted that he will first hold a bilateral meeting with Zelenskyy in Brussels, after which other European leaders will join him.

"Very high on the agenda will be ensuring that the president, his team, Ukraine are in the best position on the day they decide to start peace talks," he said.

The NATO Secretary General stressed that Western countries must now do everything possible to provide Ukraine with the necessary weapons systems, including air defense.

Zelenskyy also said that over the next two days he will work in Brussels to form a common European position - "on how to secure Ukraine, strengthen us, our state, our citizens, strengthen our army."

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, during his visit to Ukraine on December 2, announced that Germany had transferred to Ukraine five complete sets of IRIS-T, three Patriot systems, more than 50 Gepard anti-aircraft systems with missiles, shells and spare parts to strengthen its air defense, and another IRIS-T system, Patriot and Gepard systems are scheduled to be delivered in December. He also promised that in 2025, Germany will also supply air defense systems, howitzers, combat and reconnaissance drones.

In November, Ukraine received a NASAMS air defense system from Canada.
