Pope Francis has called for understanding between the Ukrainian and russian peoples, whom he called cousins. The pontiff's words are quoted by Vatican News.
The Pope stressed the need to pray for peace, in particular for Palestine, for Israel, for Lebanon, for Syria, for the entire Middle East and for Myanmar. Separately, the pontiff called for understanding between the Ukrainian and russian peoples.
"And raising his prayers to “the Holy Mother of God" for "the long-awaited peace for the Ukrainian people and the Russian people,” he said: "They are brothers, cousins. Let them come to an understanding! War is always a defeat. Peace to the whole world!" the publication quotes the words of Pope Francis.
The pontiff also asked to pray for the victims of the Cyclone Chido on the Mayotte archipelago in the Indian Ocean, the wind speed of which reached over 200 kilometers per hour.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 1, Pope Francis condemned the shelling of Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
