Zelenskyy to meet with European leaders and NATO Secretary General to discuss support for Ukraine - Reuters

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit Brussels on December 18, where he will meet with key European leaders. Among the participants in the talks: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Ministers Keir Starmer, Italian Giorgia Meloni and Polish Donald Tusk, as well as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

This was reported by Reuters, citing informed sources.

The main topic of discussion will be further steps in supporting Ukraine in the face of potential changes in US policy after Donald Trump returns to the White House.

The agency recalls that a number of Western leaders have previously proposed deploying European peacekeeping forces on the territory of Ukraine after a ceasefire to prevent a new wave of russian aggression. However, the upcoming meeting is more likely to be political in nature, and no specific decisions are expected yet.

"This discussion will focus on strategic planning for the coming weeks and months," the agency's source familiar with the details of the meeting said.

The EU summit will be held in Brussels from December 18 to 19. As a European diplomat told Radio Svoboda on condition of anonymity, Emmanuel Macron intends to raise the issue of a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire agreement between Kyiv and Moscow.

So far, the idea remains at the concept stage, but it is becoming increasingly relevant given the need to prepare for possible negotiations with Donald Trump on the war in Ukraine, the source noted.
