Education Ministry proposes to leave students for second year

Educational Ombudsman Nadiia Leshchyk has proposed to the Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi to grant educational institutions the right to leave students of all grades for the second year of study.

Leshchyk wrote about this on her Facebook on Tuesday, December 10.

The Educational Ombudsman noted that she raised with the Minister the key issues that educators are addressing, and provided her proposals. According to her, among the proposals:

  • allocate subventions to support children with special educational needs in 2025;
  • allocate a monthly supplement for special working conditions for teachers of preschool and extracurricular education institutions;
  • allocate subvention funds for shelters in educational institutions for all regions, as well as in communities where access to preschool education is limited due to the lack of such shelters;
  • subventions for nutrition for students of general secondary education institutions.

"I proposed to grant educational institutions the right to leave students of all grades in the same class for the second year of study under one of the following conditions: the child has an initial level of academic achievements, prolonged absence from classes, absence for one academic semester by decision of the pedagogical council, without the consent of the parents," Leshchyk noted.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 21, the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovations, Serhii Babak, stated that he was dissatisfied with the mechanism for implementing decisions of the Ministry of Education and Science, headed by Oksen Lisovyi.
