The Cabinet of Ministers approved an agreement with Romania on the construction of a road bridge over the Tysa River at the future checkpoint Bila Tserkva - Sighetu Marmației in the Zakarpattia Region on the Ukrainian-Romanian state border.
The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development announced this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The corresponding agreement was signed on October 18, 2023.
Currently, with the funding and support of partners, the development of a feasibility study for the construction of a checkpoint, protective dam, service area and access road to the bridge between the two countries is underway.
At the same time, Romanian colleagues are already working on the construction of the bridge.
It is planned, that 400 trucks, 600 cars and 80 buses will be able to cross this checkpoint per day.
The Ministry notes that the Bila Tserkva - Sighetu Marmației checkpoint will become one of the key logistics routes and will significantly increase the throughput capacity of the Ukrainian-Romanian border and the state border in general.
Currently, four cargo checkpoints for large vehicles operate with Romania: Porubne - Siret, Orlivka - Isaccea, Dyakove - Halmeu, Krasnoyilsk - Vicovu de Sus (for empty trucks), almost 500 trucks cross these checkpoints daily to leave Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in September, the Solotvyno - Sighetu Marmației checkpoint (Zakarpattia Region) on the border with Romania partially suspended the passage of vehicles due to the emergency condition of the bridge structure across the Tysa River.
The project for a new bridge across the Tysa River between the settlements of Bila Tserkva (Zakarpattia, Ukraine) and Sighetu Marmației (Maramureș, Romania) costs over USD 32 million, with most of the money being provided by the European Union.
