President Volodymyr Zelenskyy allows the presence of allied troops in Ukraine to guarantee Ukraine's security before it joins the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Zelenskyy announced this on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"If there is a pause while Ukraine is not in NATO, and even if we had an invitation, but we were not in NATO, and there is a pause, then who will guarantee us any security? We can think and work on Emmanuel's position. He proposed that some part of the troops of this or that country be present on the territory of Ukraine, which would guarantee us security while Ukraine is not in NATO. But we must have a clear understanding before this when Ukraine will be in the EU and when Ukraine will be in NATO. Understanding our future, these would be very effective guarantees," he noted.
Zelenskyy also announced that he was going to call US President Joe Biden in the near future and raise the issue of inviting Ukraine to NATO.
At the same time, he emphasized that Biden is currently the incumbent US President, and much depends on his position, and for now there is no point in discussing this issue with US President-elect Donald Trump, while he is not yet in the White House.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Zelenskyy called his meeting on December 7 with French President Emmanuel Macron and US President-elect Donald Trump productive and stated that they all want to end the war in Ukraine as quickly and fairly as possible.
On October 16, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented the Victory Plan for Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada, in particular, the first point of the Victory Plan provides for inviting Ukraine to NATO now, so that Ukraine can join the Alliance after the war.
