British defence intelligence has noted that most of the russian advance in recent weeks has been concentrated on three axes in the Donetsk Region.
This is stated in the intelligence review of the British Ministry of Defence dated December 7.
In particular, the following three axes are being discussed - the Pokrovsk axis, the Kurakhove axis and the Velyka Novosilka axis, all in the Donetsk Region, in the south-east of Ukraine, and are closely linked.
On the first of them, as noted in the review, russia is gradually advancing towards Pokrovsk, having taken control of the town of Selydove and expanding its front. Russian troops remain approximately 6-7 km from Pokrovsk itself.
Also, the British Ministry of Defence indicates that russian troops are likely to be fighting in the center of Kurakhove.
"Kurakhove forms an important section of the front line, and its capture would allow Russian forces to consolidate positions in the area and set conditions for further advances westwards," the review says.
The intelligence also drew attention to the limited counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces north of Velyka Novosilka, which allowed the capture of the village of Novyi Komar from russian troops.
"Despite this, Russian efforts to cut off supply routes on the northern approach to Velyka Novoselka and encircle the town continue. Russian forces are also pushing towards Velyka Novosilka from the south, recently capturing the village of Blahodatne," the review says.
