Syrian army begins withdrawing from areas in east of country occupied by Kurds from SDF — SOHR

Syrian government forces have begun leaving areas near the city of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria. According to unconfirmed information, these areas are now occupied by Kurdish forces deployed on the other side of the Euphrates River.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported this.

SOHR sources reported that the troops of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad have begun withdrawing units that were located in the Deir ez-Zor area. They are moving towards the capital.

In addition to Deir ez-Zor, government forces are leaving positions in the areas of the settlements of Al-Mayadeen, Al-Quriyah and Abu Kamal.

It is emphasized that along with Assad's forces, who left Abu Kamal, a city located on the border with Iraq, fighters of Iraqi groups supported by Iran were seen.

It is also claimed that, against the backdrop of the withdrawal of government forces, Kurdish units (Syrian Democratic Forces, SDF) are beginning to occupy the territory south of the Euphrates River.
