German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that it will be possible to agree on a joint strategy on Ukraine with the U.S. president-elect Donald Trump.
The German publication Spiegel has informed about this, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
Scholz noted that he recently had a long telephone conversation with Trump, in addition, his team maintains direct contact with the Trump team on security policy issues.
"I am confident that we will be able to develop a joint strategy on Ukraine," the Chancellor said in an interview with the newspapers of the German media group Funke.
When asked whether Ukraine would have to agree to territorial concessions to stop the fighting, Scholz replied that nothing can be decided "over the heads of Ukrainians."
This statement was made before the arrival of many world leaders in Paris for the opening ceremony of Notre Dame Cathedral.
The publication notes that on Saturday, in particular, Trump is scheduled to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron as part of the opening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
Then Macron will receive Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
During the election campaign, Trump repeatedly stated that he could end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours, but recently nothing more has been heard about this.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on December 2, Scholz arrived on an unannounced visit to Kyiv and announced the provision of a new package of military support for Ukraine in the amount of EUR 650 million in December.
He and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy inspected the latest models of drones created in cooperation with Germany.
