The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine "categorically rejects the russian federation's groundless accusations against Ukraine of alleged involvement in the worsening security situation in Syria." The department said that russia, together with Iran, is responsible for this.
This is stated in a statement by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
"Ukraine, unlike russia, unconditionally adheres to the norms of international law, the principles of the inviolability of sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries," the statement said.
The ministry emphasized that "it is Moscow, together with Tehran, that bear the main responsibility" for the steady trend of worsening security situation in Syria.
"It is the crimes of the Assad regime against its own people and its unwillingness to ensure a fair dialogue within the country that have endangered the survival of Syria as the only independent state," the Foreign Ministry added in a statement.
As a reminder, on November 27, Syrian opposition groups led by the Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) launched a large-scale offensive in northwestern Syria.
As a result of the offensive, the opposition managed to capture a number of settlements, including Aleppo, one of the largest cities in the country. They also took control of military facilities of the government army.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 2, it became known that russian military personnel and diplomats were fleeing Damascus amid the advance of Syrian opposition groups.
In addition, several hundred fighters from a number of Iraqi groups supported by Iran were sent to Syria to support the forces of President Bashar Assad, who are trying to stop the offensive of opposition forces.
