The Verkhovna Rada has increased excise taxes on cigarettes.
This was announced in his Telegram channel by Yaroslav Zhelezniak, MP from the Holos faction, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
A total of 237 MPs voted for bill No. 11090, with a minimum required 226, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The bill proposes a gradual, by 2028, increase in specific excise tax rates on cigarettes until they reach the minimum level established by Council Directive 2011/64/EU of June 21, 2011.
"Next year, a pack of cigarettes will increase by about +UAH 40. Maybe more, since excise taxes will be tied to the euro by this law and gradually approach the minimum EU requirements in their volume," Zhelezniak wrote.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 2, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law on increasing the excise tax on gasoline by 13.6% from September, from EUR 213.5 to EUR 242.6 per 1,000 liters, the excise tax on diesel fuel by 27.3%, from EUR 139.5 to EUR 177.6 per 1,000 liters, and the excise tax on LPG 2.8 times, from EUR 52 to EUR 148 1,000 liters.
