As a result of russian aggression and hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, more than 1.2 million tons of pollutants have already entered the atmospheric air, including 430,000 tons of carbon monoxide, 700,000 tons of dust and 40,000 tons of non-methane volatile organic compounds, as well as a significant amount of heavy metals and other harmful substances.
This was reported by the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Environmental Management Olena Kryvoruchkina in an interview with the publication Kyivschina 24\7.
"As a result of the russian federation's attacks, the air is turning into a kind of toxic "cocktail". Each attack by the aggressor on high-risk objects carries an additional danger to people," noted Olena Kryvoruchkina.
As an example, the MP cited the results of the russian attack on the Kharkiv oil depot, which resulted in a spill of fuel and lubricants, soil and the Nemyshlia River contamination, and the strike on the Sumykhimprom plant, where 67 tons of ammonia leaked due to shelling.
Kryvoruchkina also reported that currently the amount of damage to the natural environment of Ukraine as a result of the actions of the aggressor country's troops is UAH 2.77 trillion. Of these, UAH 784.1 billion is damage to the atmosphere, UAH 84.7 billion - to water, UAH 1.17 trillion - to land, and another UAH 602 billion - to the nature reserve fund of Ukraine.
As previously reported, the Ukrainian delegation at the world's largest environmental conference COP29 revealed statistics on russian war crimes against the environment.
