Ukrainians' microloan debt in 2024 almost doubled

During the first nine months of 2024, Ukrainians applied for almost 6 million microloans for a total of UAH 37.11 billion. Despite the almost unchanged number of loans compared to last year, there has been a significant increase in their debt, the Opendatabot portal reports.

The average amount of a microloan increased by 28% - from UAH 4,830 to UAH 6,190. Interestingly, compared to 2021, the amount of loans in dollar terms even decreased slightly: if earlier Ukrainians borrowed an average of USD 168, now it is about USD 150.

Every month, Ukrainians conclude about 670,000 loan agreements, which corresponds to last year's figures, but significantly less than in 2021, when there were 1.2 million agreements per month.

The most indicative is the dynamics of debt: since the beginning of the year it has increased 1.7 times - from UAH 9.3 to UAH 16.02 billion. At the same time, 90% of microloans are registered online, and most agreements are concluded for a period of three months to a year.

As previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law on limiting the maximum level of microloan rates. The document establishes a gradual decrease and limitation of the maximum rate at 1% per day.
