The first steps in using drone swarms should be in 2025. Ukraine plans to significantly increase the percentage of autonomous drones with guidance.
Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Development of Education, Science and Technology - Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov stated this, Reuters reported on Monday, December 2.
According to him, Ukraine used strike drones that are capable of flying up to 1,800 km. Fedorov also confirmed that Ukraine is working on drones to intercept long-range strike drones of the Shahed type, which the aggressor country russia uses for regular night attacks on Ukrainian cities.
"I think next year will significantly increase the percentage of autonomous drones with targeting. We might see the first real drone swarm uses, though not on a massive scale. The first steps will happen," Fedorov said.
The Minister noted that this year Ukraine has signed a contract for the purchase of 1.6 million drones, of which 1.3 million have been delivered, including inexpensive "first person view" (FPV) drones. According to Fedorov, Ukrainian production of long-range drones has increased tenfold since 2023.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in November Ukraine carried out the most massive drone raid on the capital of the aggressor country, moscow.
On November 10, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck an ammunition depot in the Bryansk Oblast of the aggressor country, russia.
On November 4, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to increase orders for Ukrainian drones for military operations.
