The Cabinet of Ministers plans to approve a strategy for the development of road and railway checkpoints and access roads.
As Ukrinform reports, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated this during the International Transport Forum.
"Further development of the border is important both for the movement of trucks and for passenger transport. In the near future, we plan to approve an appropriate strategy, which includes measures for the development of road and railway checkpoints and access roads," he said.
Shmyhal noted that the load on road checkpoints has increased several times due to the war, so it is important for Ukraine to increase the throughput capacity of the border.
"During the war, we managed to open two new checkpoints with Romania and, with the support of partners, begin the reconstruction of the most important checkpoints with Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary," he said.
The head of government recalled that to control truck queues at the border, Ukraine has introduced the eCherha (eQueue system). As of now, 1.5 million vehicles have crossed the border electronically.
He added that the extension of the Agreement on the Liberalization of Freight Transportation between Ukraine and the EU until June 2025 is no less important.
"This decision should become permanent, because it is the absence of the need for permits that stimulates the development of the EU economy and allows us to maintain economic stability in Ukraine. In the first year and a half of the Agreement, imports to Ukraine increased by 44%, exports by 48%. The figures indicate that the liberalization of transportation is beneficial to both sides," Shmyhal said.
