Of officially registered 4.6 million IDPs, 1.3 million receive assistance - Vereshchuk

Of the officially registered 4.6 million internally displaced persons (IDPs), 1.3 million people receive assistance from the state.

Deputy Head of the Office of the President, Iryna Vereshchuk, said this on the air of a telethon, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"4.6 million are officially registered, 1.3 million receive assistance," she said.

Vereshchuk emphasized that the state has been paying monthly assistance to IDPs already for three years, and UAH 150 billion have been paid from the state budget in direct assistance to support the accommodation of IDPs.

"In the first years, UAH 75 billion were paid, last year - almost UAH 54 billion, and no less is planned for next year. We understand that the trend is declining, people are either returning to their homes after de-occupation, or are going abroad. More than 100,000 of these registered persons, who lost payments, have gone abroad and will receive assistance from our partners there," the official noted.

She believes that the biggest problem for displaced persons is housing.

According to her, the Office of the President is developing a unified concept of assistance and legal protection for persons affected by the war, which must be approved by a presidential decree by the end of the year, after which the government must immediately adopt a strategy with an implementation plan.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Vereshchuk previously denied the mass return of displaced persons to the TOT.

Vereshchuk stated that there is no and cannot be official data on how many Ukrainians have returned to the temporarily occupied territories (TOT).
