This year, the Christmas and New Year holidays in Kyiv will be celebrated without mass gatherings and events, fairs and entertainment, with compliance with safety requirements and a regime of electricity consumption restrictions. This decision was made on Wednesday, November 27, by the Kyiv City Defense Council.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this on his Telegram channel.
"This year, Christmas and New Year holidays in Kyiv will be held without mass gatherings and events, fairs and entertainment, in compliance with security requirements and the regime of limiting the use of electricity. This decision was made today by the Kyiv City Defense Council. The main Christmas tree of Ukraine, as in previous years, will shine on Sofiyska Square. It will be installed at the expense of patrons. The capital's Defense Council supported the initiative of LLC GLOBAL-DECOR, which proposed to equip the New Year tree with its own resources. GLOBAL-DECOR will take on the assembly and dismantling work, maintenance of the tree. We will not allocate funds from the city budget," said Klitschko.
He added that the Christmas tree will begin to be installed on December 2. The grand opening is traditionally scheduled for St. Nicholas Day, December 6. A photo zone with QR codes of charitable foundations and several houses for the sale of exclusively souvenir products will be installed near the tree. No mass events, fairs or other entertainment are planned on Sofiyska Square.
Also, according to Klitschko, the Defense Council recommended that business entities, regardless of their form of ownership, refrain from mass events in open locations.
"In the event of celebrations indoors, events should take place exclusively in compliance with safety rules and the regime of limiting the use of electricity, in places where there is shelter. And also not at the expense of the capital's budget," Klitschko noted.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, patrons will install a New Year tree on Sofiyska Square in Kyiv. A New Year design project for the location has already been developed, which provides for the installation of an artificial Christmas tree with thematic New Year decor.
