9 MPs suggest Rada lower mobilization age to 55 years

9 members of the Verkhovna Rada have suggested that the parliament lower the mobilization age from 60 to 55 years.

This is stated in bill No. 12222, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

It proposes to make amendments to the Law "On Military Duty and Military Service", which would provide for a reduction in the age limit for military service and persons liable for military service in the reserve from 60 to 55 years.

It also provides for maintaining access to military service for citizens who have expressed a desire to undergo military service after reaching the age limit for military service.

In the explanatory note, the authors of the bill say that the physical health of most men aged approximately 55 to 60 is unsatisfactory and that now "the army is aging", and also refer to lower-level commanders who ask to mobilize fewer older men, because, they say, they cannot be involved in some areas of combat operations.

Among the authors: MP from the European Solidarity faction Oleksii Honcharenko, leader of the Batkivshchyna party and faction Yuliia Tymoshenko, member of the parliamentary National Security Committee Solomiia Bobrovska (the Holos faction), and MP from the Servant of the People faction Heorhii Mazurashu.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that there will be no lowering of the mobilization age below 25 years in Ukraine.
