Successes of russian army in west of Donetsk Region do not mean collapse of front line for AFU - ISW

The russian advance in the west of the Donetsk Region will gain operational significance only if the russian command effectively uses its tactical successes, according to a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

At the same time, the current actions of the enemy do not mean an inevitable breakthrough of the front or the collapse of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defense. The russian offensive operations near Velyka Novosilka and other areas indicate their attempts to surround key points and create a threat to Ukrainian communications. However, even with the achievement of local successes, strategic goals remain unlikely due to limited coordination and significant losses.

"The Ukrainian theater is large and Russian tactical gains in western Donetsk Oblast should not cause undue panic in the short-term. Russian gains remain tactical and Russian forces have not restored operational maneuver to the battlefield yet. The current Russian advances may fall short of their operational objectives, as did initial Russian frontal assaults against Chasiv Yar and Pokrovsk earlier in 2024," ISW notes.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the night of Monday, November 25, DeepState project analysts updated the map and reported that the russians had occupied Katerynivka and Yuriivka in the Donetsk Region.

The analysts also reported on the enemy's advance near Novomlynsk in the Kharkiv Region, Dalnie, Kostiantynopolske, in Rozdolne, Petrivka and Kurakhove in the Donetsk Region.
