German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the telephone conversation with russian dictator vladimir putin "was not pleasant." According to him, the parties essentially repeated the arguments that had been made earlier.
He spoke about this on ZDF.
Thus, Scholz said about the conversation with putin that it was "responsible and necessary to do", but this conversation, according to him, was not pleasant.
"You know, I met with him before the war and expressed my opinion to him, and also said very clearly that everything that he later presented as the reasons for the war is not true. I spoke with him on the phone again and again until the end of 2022, and these conversations were never pleasant. This time the conversation was not pleasant either. But you have to talk, even to hear it," said Scholz.
Recall that on November 15, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a telephone conversation with russian dictator vladimir putin. This conversation was the first direct communication between Scholz and putin in almost two years.
Regarding the content of the call, he noted that all the arguments previously made by the parties were repeated again.
"All the arguments were actually repeated again. And it was clear to me that I also had to repeat mine. That is, Mr. Putin, do not expect us to reduce our support. You must find a way out of this war. You must stop your attacks and withdraw your troops," Scholz said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Reuters informed that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned Scholz against calling putin.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated after Scholz's conversation with putin that the phone calls and long conversations give russian dictator vladimir putin hope for easing international isolation, and also do not bring "any added value" to achieving peace in Ukraine.
