British intelligence tells about state of russian Black Sea Fleet after 1,000 days of war

After 1,000 days of full-scale war, russia's naval potential in the Black Sea was significantly depleted by Ukrainian operations. At the same time, the russian Black Sea Fleet retains the ability to strike from a long distance on the territory of Ukraine in support of ground operations.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain on the X social network.

"Before the (full-scale - ed.) russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the russian leadership almost certainly perceived the Naval Forces of the russian federation and the Black Sea Fleet as integral components of its strategic maritime power. After 1,000 days of war, russia's naval potential in the Black Sea was significantly depleted due to highly effective Ukrainian operations," the message says.

It is noted that before the invasion, the Ukrainian Navy was significantly outnumbered by the Black Sea Fleet and was limited to a small number of large warships and coastal defense vessels. Throughout the conflict, the Ukrainian Navy was unable to conduct conventional operations in the Black Sea.

However, starting from February 24, 2022, Ukrainian forces have destroyed or damaged over 25% of the major russian warships operating in the Black Sea. This includes the sinking of the Black Sea Fleet's flagship, the Slava-class cruiser “Moskva”, which was previously described as a most advanced air defense platform.

"As a result, the russian Black Sea Fleet was forced to move all of its major assets from its historic base in Sevastopol to Novorossiysk in the eastern Black Sea. Russian units operating in the region were also forced to adapt their tactics and change the areas in which they operate. Although the russian Black Sea Fleet is currently limited to the eastern Black Sea, it retains the ability to strike from long range into Ukrainian territory in support of ground operations," the British intelligence service concluded.

As a reminder, November 19 marked the 1,000th day since the full-scale invasion of the aggressor state, russia. Ukrainian News Agency reported on the most costly losses russia has suffered since the start of the war, and also recalled the key events of the full-scale aggression of the russian federation.
