Great Britain has imposed additional restrictive measures on Iran. London's new sanctions are related to Tehran's supply of ballistic missiles to the aggressor country of russia for use in the war against Ukraine.
This is according to a message on the British government website.
Great Britain has imposed financial sanctions against Iran's state airline Iran Air. They will further restrict its direct commercial air transportation.
Also under sanctions are Iran's state shipping carrier Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines and the Olya cargo port, located in the Astrakhan Oblast of the russian federation.
"These measures include asset freezes and maritime transport sanctions, respectively, adopted against both organizations due to their role in supporting the Iranian defense sector or transporting weapons to russia," the message says.
As a reminder, earlier on November 18, the European Council announced the introduction of new sanctions against Iran and russia due to the supply of ballistic missiles and drones for use in the war against Ukraine.
In September 2024, a number of Western media outlets reported that Iran had supplied russia with ballistic missiles that the russian army intends to use in the war against Ukraine.
And according to Reuters, several dozen russian military personnel arrived in Iran in the summer to train in the use of Iranian missile systems.
Later, the US Department of Defense confirmed that Iran had transferred ballistic missiles to russia for use in the war against Ukraine.
