The U.S. is sending to Ukraine more than 500 interceptor missiles for the Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems. They will provide Ukraine's air defense needs until the end of the current year.
The American edition of The Wall Street Journal writes about it.
The U.S. is trying to deliver weapons to Ukraine as soon as possible before Trump takes office.
"Trump promised to end the war in Ukraine even before taking office. Although the newly elected president has not announced a plan on how to do this, representatives of the Biden administration fear that the new administration will reduce the supply of weapons to Ukraine," the newspaper writes.
By providing as much military aid as possible to Kyiv until January, Biden administration officials hope to give Ukraine a stronger negotiating position and strengthen its defenses.
"In response to increased Russian drone and missile attacks, the Pentagon is sending more than 500 interceptor missiles to Ukraine for the Patriot anti-missile defense system and the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS)," the journalists write.
These supplies should meet the needs of Ukraine's air defense by the end of this year.
