Canada has sent an NASAMS air defense system to Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expects it in Ukraine by the end of 2024.
Zelenskyy announced this on the Telegram channel, talking about a telephone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"The Prime Minister announced the shipment of the first NASAMS air defense system ordered by Canada for Ukraine. We expect to receive it by the end of this year," he said.
Zelenskyy thanked Trudeau for the successfully held conference on the fourth point of the Peace Formula "Release of prisoners and deportees", which took place in Montreal on October 30-31.
He noted that the next stage should be the preparation of the final document of the Peace Plan based on the results of all thematic conferences.
Zelenskyy also reported that Trudeau confirmed his support for Ukraine's Victory Plan. They discussed further cooperation regarding the organization of the second Peace Summit and the involvement of the countries of the Global South in this work.
Zelenskyy and Trudeau discussed further defense support for Ukraine, the situation on the battlefield, in particular, involvement of the North Korean troops in the war. They coordinated cooperation within the framework of Canada's presidency of the G7 next year.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Canada previously planned to transfer the modern NASAMS medium-range air defense system to Ukraine at the beginning of 2025.
Canada joined the U.S. order for the production of 10 NASAMS systems as early as 2023.
