European Parliament President suggests creating European security organization that would complement NATO

The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, stated the need to create an organization to ensure the security of the European Union, which would complement the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO).

Metsola said this in an interview with the Spanish publication El Mundo.

According to her, due to the full-scale invasion of russia into Ukraine, the European Union found itself on the verge of an extremely unstable situation.

Metsola emphasized that the bloc should be ready for all possible situations that may occur after the U.S. presidential election.

She added that the European Union should become stronger, and its actions should be more effective and coordinated.

"That's what I'm talking about when it comes to creating a full-fledged union in the field of security and defense. The union we've been waiting for," she said.

According to Metsola, this organization would complement the already existing NATO and would not compete with the European Union.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 3, the American publication The Washington Post wrote with reference to politicians from five European countries that the European Union fears the arrival of Donald Trump in the White House and is preparing for a possible break in transatlantic relations.

Recall that at the beginning of 2024 it became known that the countries of the European Union are discussing the creation of a continental military alliance in case the U.S. refuses to defend its European NATO allies after the arrival of Trump.
