The British English Collins Dictionary announced the adjective "brat" as the word of the year 2024. The word acquired a new meaning - "a confident, independent and hedonistic relationship."
"Brat" became one of the most talked about words in 2024 thanks to the release of the album of the same name by British singer Charli XCX. The literal translation of the name "brat" is "abomination".

The lime color of the album (3570-C according to the Pantone scale), which is also now called brat, became associated with this word. It has been used in the collections of Prada, Gucci, in advertising campaigns for Google and Burger King, and in the presidential campaign of Kamala Harris.
Collins Dictionary notes that "brat" reflects modern trends characterized by informality, impermanence and sloppiness.
Among the contenders for the title of the word of the year were "delulu" - unrealistic expectations, "brainrot" - immersion in low-quality content, and "romantasy" - a hybrid genre of literature that combines romance and fantasy.

In 2023, the Collins Dictionary named "AI" as the word of the year, an acronym that stands for artificial intelligence.
