Navy tells whether russia will be able to transfer ships from Mediterranean and Caspian Seas to Black Sea

There are quite a lot of russian ships in the Mediterranean and Caspian Seas, and since the seas are connected by canals, the occupiers could theoretically redeploy these units to the Azov-Black Sea region.

This was reported by Dmytro Pletenchuk, the spokesman of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

A group of russian ships is constantly in the Mediterranean Sea, and, as Pletenchuk noted, their presence must be taken into account. As the spokesman explained, almost all sea water areas are connected to each other by certain straits, canals, and in fact, all this is one "geopolitical theater".

Currently, russian ships cannot pass to the Black Sea due to the ban provided by the 1936 Montreux Convention. According to Pletenchuk, it is practically impossible for the russians to violate it, because the control of the channels is quite serious.

"But in any case, we take this into account in our activities. We can say that for quite a long time during the full-scale invasion across the Black Sea, the so-called "Syrian Express" was still running from Novorossiysk to the port of Tartus. And in fact, the same Turkish straits were used for that, to ensure a permanent operational connection of the russian fleet in the Mediterranean. Now it has not been working for a long time," the spokesman of the Navy said.

He also commented on whether it is possible to transfer russian ships through internal channels from the Caspian, in particular, to the Sea of Azov or the Black Sea. According to the military, at the moment it makes no sense for the enemy to transfer combat units from there, so the Black Sea Fleet of the russian federation is still in Novorossiysk and actually does not go to the open sea.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, three russian warships carrying Kalibr cruise missiles were spotted in the waters of the Black and Mediterranean Seas on Saturday morning.
