Ukraine will increase electricity imports from EU in winter from 1.7 GW to 2.1 GW

Ukraine will increase electricity imports from the EU in winter from 1.7 GW to 2.1 GW.

This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Energy, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"From December 1, the maximum capacity for importing electric energy from EU countries will be increased from the current 1.7 to 2.1 GW. This will increase the stability of the Ukrainian energy system in the conditions of criminal Russian shelling and infrastructure destruction. I am grateful to European partners, in particular European Commissioner Kadri Simson, for consistent position and effective steps to support our energy system on the eve of winter," the press service quotes the Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko.

The need to adopt an important decision for Ukraine to increase import capacity was discussed at the meeting of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in September in Kyiv.

Also, Ukraine will additionally have the possibility of guaranteed 250 MW of transfer capacity from the EU in emergency aid mode.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in September, compared to August, Ukraine reduced electricity imports by 7.5% to 438,000 MWh.
