Russians hit UNESCO-protected State Industry Building in Kharkiv, 9 people injured

On the night of Tuesday, October 29, russian occupation forces attacked the city of Kharkiv, causing the destruction of the building of the Derzhprom (State Industry Building), which is a candidate for the UNESCO World Heritage List, injuring nine people.

The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office announced this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

It is reported that on October 28, around 9 p.m., the armed forces of the russian federation carried out an air strike on the Shevchenkivskyi District of the city of Kharkiv.

According to preliminary data, the attack on the city was made with FAB-500 with UMPK from the settlement of Stroitel of the Belgorod Oblast of the russian federation.

"An aviation munition hit one of the entrances of Derzhprom located in the center of the city. The specified object is a monument of architecture and urban planning of national importance and is under the temporary enhanced protection of UNESCO," the message reads.

The building houses a number of offices of official bodies and structures.

The State Industry Building is the first Soviet 13-story skyscraper, is a monument of architecture and urban planning of national importance, and was also included in the Tentative List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2017. Built during 1925-1928, the building survived the German occupation and the Second World War.

A regional hospital, apartment buildings, and a restaurant were also damaged.

As a result of the enemy missile attack, nine people were injured: five men, among them a policeman who was on duty, and four women.

Among the victims, there were two employees of a regional hospital department, they received injuries of moderate severity.

Under the procedural leadership of the Shevchenkivskyi District Prosecutor's Office of Kharkiv, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the night of Monday, October 28, the russian occupation forces shelled Kharkiv, as a result of which 7 civilians were injured.
