"UAH 1,000 for every Ukrainian is a controversial initiative" - MP Vasylevska-Smahliuk

Member of Parliament of Ukraine Olha Vasylevska-Smahliuk (Servant of the People faction) called the new program, which provides UAH 1,000 for eSupport for all Ukrainians, a "controversial initiative" and explained her vision of the logic of the distribution of funds.

The MP published the relevant post on Facebook.

Vasylevska-Smahliuk emphasized that this was the initiative of the President, and the financial and budget committees of the Verkhovna Rada were not involved in its development.

She also emphasized that the money planned to be distributed as part of the initiative was accumulated thanks to international support and could not be transferred to the needs of the army.

"I emphasize that if these funds, which are now accumulated thanks to international support, could be transferred to the army, it would be done without hesitation. But the "focus" is that this money can only be used for social protection of the population," the MP said.

The MP suggests that the decision not to direct funds to the needs of certain groups of the population, but to distribute them among all Ukrainians, can be explained by the desire of the head of state not to create additional confrontation in society.

"If we direct them to IDPs, pensioners will be dissatisfied, if to pensioners - teachers will be angry, if to teachers - doctors will be upset, and so on. <…> That is why, probably, the President decided to distribute the funds equally. The money will go to those who need it, to buy goods and services of Ukrainian production, medicine, utilities, books. This will increase domestic demand, which, in turn, will increase taxes, and they will go to the army. After all, the army is financed only from taxpayers' taxes. Whoever does not need this money can spend it on weapons, which I, for example, will do, because my husband serves in the Armed Forces of Ukraine," Olha Vasylevska-Smahliuk said.

As previously reported, on October 25, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a new program starting December 1, which provides for UAH 1,000 for eSupport for all Ukrainians. The President added that he instructed that these funds could be spent on Ukrainian books, on cultural services, and could be donated to the military.
