Ukraine calls on Portugal to support initiatives for return of Ukrainians

Ukraine called on Portugal to support initiatives for the return of Ukrainians, who went abroad due to the war.

This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Economy, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"According to the latest UN data, 6.4 million people have gone abroad because of the war. 90% of them are women with children. Creating conditions for our people to return home is something we are actively working on as a Government. And we ask for partners at every opportunity about supporting these efforts. In particular, we urge you to join our grant programs for the creation or development of businesses, so that women have the motivation to return and create their own businesses in Ukraine," said First Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Economy Yuliya Svyrydenko at a conference in Portuguese Estoril.

It is noted that the "There is no peace without women" panel at the "Time to Rethink" conference was opened by the President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska.

Svyrydenko also called on Portugal to join the Skills Alliance initiative, which has already been supported by 50 countries, organizations and business representatives, the goal of which is to retrain 180,000 Ukrainians in three years.

She emphasized the important role that Ukrainian women play during a full-scale war and noted that the capacity of women and the companies headed by them is the basis of the stability of the economy.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in October, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the demographic development strategy of Ukraine for the period until 2040, which, in particular, provides for the creation of conditions for migratory population growth and a decrease in the outflow of Ukrainians abroad. At the same time, it is emphasized that the return of Ukrainians should take place "safely and with dignity."
