The aggressor state russia attacked Ukraine in September with a record number of kamikaze drones – 1,300 drones. At the same time, this number may be exceeded already in October.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom announced this in its latest Defence Intelligence Update on X.
"During September 2024 Russia launched over 1,300 One Way Attack Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (OWA-UAVs) into Ukraine. This represents the highest number of OWA-UAVs launched in a month since the start of the conflict. Based on the current rates it is almost certain that Russia will surpass that number in October 2024," the message reads.
The agency noted that it is not known whether russia will be able to maintain these rates until the end of 2024. However, the aggressor state is almost certainly expanding its capabilities to conduct large-scale drone strikes against Ukraine, supplementing Iranian supplies with growing domestic production.
The russian federation uses UAVs against many targets, including energy infrastructure, given their ability to strike deep into Ukrainian territory, keeping pressure on the Ukrainian air defense system.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, from 10 p.m. on October 22, the enemy attacked Ukraine. The russian occupiers attacked with 81 Shahed-type attack UAVs and drones of an unknown type from the directions of Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk. The enemy also attacked the Odesa Region with a Kh-31P guided missile from the Black Sea.
