This is stated in the russian Offensive Campaign Assessment by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) as of October 22, 2024, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"Russia will likely use the BRICS summit as an opportunity to showcase its efforts at enhancing global ties with non-Western states and possibly establish deals and trade mechanisms through which it can support its war efforts in Ukraine by mitigating the impacts of Western sanctions," the message says.
Thus, 36 world leaders, including those from the People's Republic of China (PRC), India, South Africa and Iran, arrived in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, for the 16th annual BRICS summit, which takes place from October 22 to 24.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the Taliban’s Minister of Trade and Industry Nooruddin Azizi, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other world leaders also arrived in Kazan on October 22.
Analysts note that during the summit, russia is likely to try to create mechanisms to strengthen its military efforts in Ukraine.
In particular, russian dictator vladimir putin met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, during which both leaders emphasized the importance of multifaceted relations between russia and China, while Xi emphasized that BRICS is a format for global strategic cooperation.
Putin also met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, with whom he discussed bilateral relations, the creation of a multipolar world order and the use of national currencies in mutual trade settlements. At the same time, Modi confirmed the need to find "the earliest possible" peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine and confirmed India's role as a potential mediator.
Indian Foreign Minister Vikram Misri said on October 22 that India had returned 85 Indian citizens who had involuntarily joined the russian army to fight in Ukraine, and that Modi would hold talks with russian authorities on the return of another 20 Indian citizens during the BRICS summit.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, refused to participate in the summit of the BRICS organization, which began in Kazan, russia. Instead, a delegation of ministers was sent to the event.
In addition, on October 20 it became known that the President of Brazil Lula da Silva will not be able to attend the BRICS summit due to a head injury he received the day before.
Meanwhile, Armenia does not plan to become a member of BRICS, but will attend the summit of the organization, which will be held in the capital of the aggressor country of russia on October 22-24. The Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Mher Grigoryan, announced this.
