On Monday, October 21, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin made an unannounced visit to Kyiv.

"I’m back in Ukraine for the fourth time as Secretary of Defense, demonstrating that the United States, alongside the international community, continues to stand by Ukraine," Lloyd Austin wrote.
According to CNN, Austin arrived in Kyiv “as the future of US aid to Ukraine hangs in the balance of the imminent US presidential election and as Russia continues to make small but steady gains on the battlefield.”
During his visit, the U.S. Secretary of Defense plans to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to discuss Ukraine's arms needs and how the U.S. can continue to support the Armed Forces over the next year.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the United States supports a just peace in Ukraine, but continues to study the details of the "victory plan" of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
