Ukraine calls on International Maritime Organization to urgently send monitoring mission to ports of Odesa - Foreign Ministry

Ukraine called on the International Maritime Organization to urgently send an international monitoring mission to the ports of Odesa due to the strengthening of russian terror.

This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In particular, it is noted that on October 16 in Odesa, during a meeting with colleagues from the Nordic-Baltic Eight countries, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha drew attention to the significant increase in russian air terror and attacks on civilian ships, granaries, terminals and other port infrastructure.

Sybiha reported that Ukraine has officially appealed to the International Maritime Organization with a call to urgently send an international monitoring mission to the ports of Great Odesa against the background of intensified russian terror.

He said that in total, during the full-scale invasion, there were more than 50 russian attacks against Ukrainian ports, as a result of which more than 300 port infrastructure objects and 23 civilian ships were damaged, and more than 100,000 tons of agricultural products were destroyed.

According to his words, only in the last month, russian strikes damaged four ships, in particular with cargoes of grain for Egypt and corn for Italy, as well as a humanitarian cargo of the UN Food Program for Palestine.

He called on the partners to consider the possibility of additional assistance in the insurance of ships and terminals.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on October 14, the russian invaders attacked Odesa with a ballistic missile, as a result of which two civilian vessels under the flags of Belize and Palau were damaged, one person was killed and 8 were injured.
