The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has received offers to join BRICS, but the country does not yet plan to join the organization.
Tengri News writes about it.
"Currently and, most likely, in the foreseeable future, Kazakhstan will refrain from submitting an application to BRICS, in particular in view of the multi-stage process of consideration of the issue of membership, as well as other points related to the development prospects of this association," said the adviser and press secretary of the head of state, Berik Wali.
According to Wali, proposals for joining BRICS were considered by the head of state "from the point of view of the national interests of Kazakhstan." However, for now, Tokayev gives priority to the UN "as a universal and irreplaceable organization in which all current international problems can and should be discussed," he added.
It is noted that Tokayev is "watching the evolution" of BRICS with interest and is going to speak at the bloc's summit in the russian federation on October 24 at an extended meeting in the "outreach" format, the topic of which will be interaction with the countries of the Global South.
BRICS is an association of nine states: Brazil, russia, India, China, South Africa, UAE, Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia. This year, BRICS is chaired by russia.
It will be recalled that Cuba asked putin for membership in BRICS.
