The resumption of operation of the airport in Uzhhorod has not yet been discussed. It was transferred to the responsibility of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
This was reported by the Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine for Regional Policy, Viktor Mykyta, in an interview with LB.ua.
"This issue is still on hold. The airport has been handed over to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. They are planning to create a European hub for air support of civil defense here," Mykyta said.
According to him, the airport in Uzhhorod can provide irregular charter flights. However, the remoteness of this airport from Kyiv and other regions creates certain logistical difficulties.
"It is 800 kilometers from Kyiv to Zakarpattia. It is even further from Kharkiv. If you look at logistics, sometimes it is more convenient to take a train to the Polish airport and fly in all directions at once than to go to Zakarpattia. We need to build a road, improve railway connections," said the President's Office deputy head.
