Military exercises have started in Poland, which consist in preparing for the defense of the eastern border to counter threats from the aggressor country russia and Belarus.
According to TVP Info, the training was opened by Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The exercises are conducted within the framework of the national deterrence and defense program called Shield East (Tarcza Wschód). The resolution on the creation of the program was adopted by the Polish government in June 2024. PLN 10 billion (approximately USD 2.5 billion) was allocated for its implementation, which will take four years.
The program covers the preparation of border areas by creating a missile detection, warning and tracking system, a network of underground bunkers for missile systems and the development of infrastructure for defense systems against drones.
At the same time, the Polish military is engaged in the construction of anti-tank ditches, deepening of drainage ditches and strengthening of natural obstacles. This is designed to limit the enemy's mobility.
And ensuring the safety of military personnel and the civilian population should be achieved through the construction of shelters from prefabricated structures and underground storage facilities for military property.
Today, in the presence of the head of government and the minister of defense, the Polish military worked on identifying the enemy, occupying the defense area, establishing fire contact and supporting artillery fire.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, at the end of September, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that Warsaw intends to intervene if russia tries to attack nuclear power plants in the west of Ukraine.
