Foreign Minister Sybiha discusses with EU chief diplomat Borrell progress with EUR 35 billion loan at expense of russian assets

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, during a telephone conversation with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, discussed progress in providing Ukraine with EUR 35 billion through the use of frozen assets of the russian federation.

The Minister announced this on his X page.

The head of the Ukrainian foreign policy department noted that he had a "productive telephone conversation" with Borrell on the eve of the upcoming meeting of the EU Council on Foreign Affairs on October 14, to which he was invited.

"We discussed tangible progress in providing Ukraine with EUR 35 billion through the use of frozen Russian assets and other next joint steps," Sybiha said.

It is about the agreement of the Council of the EU to provide Ukraine with a package of macro-financial assistance in the amount of up to EUR 35 billion - it will be a component of the loan from the G7, for which the profits from the frozen assets of the russian federation will be used.

For U.S. participation in the loan, it was important for the EU to extend the periods during which the sanctions imposed on russia are reviewed and extended - to give more guarantees that they will be maintained and that the profits from the frozen assets to repay the loan will continue to flow.
