Rada allows foreigners to hold officer positions in AFU

The Verkhovna Rada allowed foreigners to serve in the military as officers.

Yaroslav Zhelezniak, MP from the Holos faction, announced this in his Telegram channel.

For the adoption of the bill No. 12023, voted a total of 276 MPs with the minimum required 226.

Foreigners and stateless persons may be accepted for military service under a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service and the National Guard.

Also, the rule that foreigners can only hold positions that are subject to replacement by military personnel of private, non-commissioned and non-commissioned officers is also abolished.

From now on, there are no restrictions for foreigners regarding positions in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service and the National Guard of Ukraine, in particular the officer ranks.

According to it, foreigners and stateless persons are granted access to state secrets in exceptional cases on the basis of international treaties, the binding consent of which has been given by the Verkhovna Rada, or a written order of the President taking into account the need to ensure national security based on the proposals of the National Security and Defense Council.

"The need to improve the legislation arose in connection with the complex operational situation that has developed on the front line and requires a significant increase in the number of combat personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations, both by conducting additional mobilization measures and by involving them in a voluntary manner on military service under the contract of all those willing, who have the relevant military accounting specialties and combat experience, including among foreigners and stateless persons," the explanatory note on the need to allow foreigners to hold officer positions in the Armed Forces of Ukraine reads.
