The Verkhovna Rada has introduced responsibility for military commanders for war crimes committed by subordinates.

A total of 228 parliamentarians voted for bill No. 11484 as a whole, with the minimum required 226.

According to it, a military commander or another person who actually acts as a military commander is subject to criminal liability for any of the following crimes:

ADVERTISING
  • genocide;
  • against humanity;
  • aggression;
  • war crime.

Parts 1 and 2 of the new Art. 31-1 of the Criminal Code refer to the crime provided for in Art. 439 "Use of weapons of mass destruction" of the Criminal Code.

Also, after the entry into force of this law, the ratification of the Rome Statute immediately enters into force.
