Oleksandr Merezhko, Member of Parliament of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, head of the parliamentary committee on foreign policy and interparliamentary cooperation, explained that Ukraine will be able to demand the extradition of the Verkhovna Rada member Artem Dmytruk (ex-MP of the faction of the same name), who fled Ukraine, after the court verdict.
He told Ukrainian News Agency about this.
"From a purely legal point of view, we can talk about extradition only when there is a court verdict, for example, or when there are proceedings at least. There must be some legal basis for submitting questions to Interpol, asking questions through the channels of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, demanding it extradition. A lot depends on the Prosecutor General’s Office, on the fact that these proceedings are started," he said about the possibility of Dmytruk's extradition.
Merezhko called the court verdict "an undoubted legal basis" for Dmytruk's extradition.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on August 25, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine served MP Artem Dmytruk with the suspicion of assaulting a law enforcement officer and a military officer, attempting to steal a firearm, causing bodily harm, and hooliganism.
The next day, August 26, the State Bureau of Investigation recognized that Artem Dmytruk illegally left Ukraine and went to Moldova.
Later, the State Bureau of Investigation told how Artem Dmytruk left Ukraine for Moldova.
And on August 29, it became known that Dmytruk was declared an international wanted man.
On September 2, a person similar to Dmytruk was spotted in one of the shopping centers in London.
And on September 24, Dmytruk said that he was detained by law enforcement officers because Ukraine demands his extradition.
