10 members of the Verkhovna Rada propose not to suspend service for military personnel who voluntarily left military units or places of service or deserted.
This is stated in bill No. 12095, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
It is proposed that, during martial law, military service for servicemen who have voluntarily left military units or places of service or who have deserted should not be suspended.
The explanatory note states that currently military service is suspended for servicemen who voluntarily left military units or places of service, deserted or voluntarily surrendered, unless otherwise determined by legislation, and the beginning of the suspension of military service is the day of entry of relevant information in the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations.
It is indicated that according to the current legislation, the continuation of military service for such servicemen during martial law is possible only in the event that a court has passed an acquittal that has entered into force, criminal proceedings have been closed, or a court has issued a decision to close criminal proceedings and release from criminal liability.
It is proposed to provide an opportunity for servicemen to continue military service after voluntarily leaving military units or places of service.
Among the authors: Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense Oleksandr Zavitnevych, his deputy Yehor Cherniev, as well as committee members Mykhailo Zdebskyi, Fedir Venislavskyi, Oleksandr Fedienko (all from the Servant of the People faction), and other committee members Oleksandr Kovaliov (Restoration of Ukraine group) and Vadym Ivchenko (Batkivshchyna faction).
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in September, the co-founder of the Demokratychna Sokyra (Democratic Ax) Viktor Trehubov was outraged by the lies of Serhii Hnezdilov, a serviceman of the 56th Mariupol Separate Mechanized Brigade, who stated that he voluntarily left the military service in order to draw attention to the problem of demobilization.
