Israel has given the administration of US President Joe Biden no guarantees that it will not strike Iran's nuclear facilities in retaliation for a missile attack earlier this week.
A high-ranking representative of the US Department of State told CNN journalists about it.
"We hope and expect to see wisdom and strength, but as you know, there are no guarantees," the official said.
He added that he did not know if Israel would use the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack to retaliate against Iran.
"I think in a sense they would want to avoid hitting on the seventh, so in my opinion, if anything, it will most likely be before or after," the official said.
CNN also showed a map of probable targets in Iran.

US officials have previously expressed support for Israel's response to Iran's missile attack, with many officials saying publicly that Tehran would suffer severe consequences. At the same time, the US has been working for almost a year to prevent the conflict from escalating into a major war, and so far they are succeeding, the official said. However, the situation is currently balancing "on the edge".
According to the official, Biden hopes that Israel will take a balanced approach.
