British intelligence explains why russian offensive in Vovchansk failed

The russian occupiers had to withdraw their forces from the area of Vovchansk in order to organize reinforcements in the Kursk Oblast, where Ukraine seized the territory in August 2024.

The Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom reports this on X.

The fighting for Vovchansk in the Kharkiv Region has been going on since May. For the city, which is located 5 kilometers from the border of Ukraine and russia, there are ongoing battles that have caused destruction to the city.

In late September 2024, Ukrainian forces recaptured and cleared the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant, which was a russian stronghold, allowing tactical operations on the Vovcha River.

"Its loss will likely limit opportunities for Russian Ground Forces (RGF) to advance in Kharkiv oblast. It is likely that Ukrainian control of the plant will facilitate further counter offensives in the north of the city to push RGF back towards the Ukraine-Russia border," the report said.

Recall that the operation to free the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant in the Kharkiv Region lasted more than a week, about 20 russian occupiers were captured.
