Russia destroyed over 200 million Ukrainian books since beginning of full-scale war - language ombudsman

The aggressor country of russia has destroyed about a thousand libraries and destroyed more than 200 million Ukrainian books since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Taras Kremin, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, announced this on Facebook on Monday, September 30.

Kremin called to participate in the restoration of destroyed library funds. According to him, bookshelves continue to be filled even in the shelters of Ukrainian cities, in particular in the Mykolaiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv and Sumy Regions.

"Cultural and educational institutions devastated by the russians need artistic, educational, and historical literature. During the full-scale invasion, almost a thousand libraries were destroyed or damaged by russian criminals, and with them - more than 200 million Ukrainian books. Our goal is to renew the library funds as much as possible and to approve this as a priority of the state," Kremin emphasized.

Special thanks to those libraries that joined the development of a network of courses on learning the Ukrainian language. By creating better conditions for the development, comprehensive functioning and popularization of the Ukrainian language as the state language, we strengthen our unity and strengthen national security.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in May, Taras Kremin, Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, called for the transfer from "gentle or defensive" to "offensive Ukrainization".

In June, Kremin emphasized the need for employees of territorial recruiting and social support centers to comply with the language law.

On January 29, Kremin announced that language courses will be opened in Ukraine for military personnel who want to improve their knowledge of their native language.
