Member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, head of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax and customs policy, Danylo Hetmantsev, does not see any prerequisites for stagflation.
He expressed this opinion in an interview with the Ukrainian News Agency.
"No, frankly, I don't see the prerequisites for this," he answered, whether stagflation is possible.
Stagflation is an economic phenomenon that combines persistently high inflation, an increase in the number of unemployed people, and a decrease in consumer demand. Stagflation describes an economy with high unemployment along with stagnation or recession and rising prices (inflation).
He also said that there is no economic or financial factor that would indicate inflationary risks greater than those reflected in the forecasts of the National Bank and the Ministry of Economy.
He confirmed that the current increase in tariffs (in particular, for electricity) and fuel excise have an impact on inflation, but, in his opinion, "not dramatically".
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Hetmantsev denies that the International Monetary Fund requires Ukraine to devalue the hryvnia.
